Hemingway Cutthroat: Whitening Sepulchres
English abstract: This paper is a critical examination of Michael Atkinson's 2010 novel Hemingway Cutthroat, set in the Spanish Civil War. The novel is shown to distort the historical truth surrounding the murder of José Robles and Hemingway's attitude to the political crimes of Communists, in order to promote a mythical and popular construction of Hemingway as an independent adventurer always on the side of just causes.
Keywords: Hemingway, Atkinson, American literature, Novel, Detective fiction, Spanish civil war, Ideology
